Traitor

I am such a traitor...
I have switched over to *gasp*
Firefox.
Hangs head in shame...
I love my safari. I really do...
but I get all the "advanced editing" screens now, like in hotmail, our youth blog, and this one.
How can I resist?

Old Blog #2 from October 11

So yesterday Kelly Ripa was telling me...
Oh most wonderful moment ever.

Emailing people is an interesting thing... its a safe way to connect. It puts you at just enough distance to not feel threatened and to not feel the emotions that surround everything.
We reveal more than in person.

There is a trust in the blank screen that does not match the trust in another's eyes.

Old Blog From October 1st

Some great moments from the other night:

My favorite thing about the Backstreet Boys is their Power Tools.
Abe Lincoln's statue in New Orleans in the main event at Mardi Gras. He wears the beads and they yell "show us your chest Abe, show us your chest!"

I know this makes no sense to anyone. But oh so funny to me.

Romancing the Song

I don't love a song right automatically. It has to romance me first. We have to get to know each other, meet a few times, and let the relationship naturally bloom. Once I decide to get involved, I commit fully. Never ask me to tell you I love a song I've just heard for the first time. My distrust of love at first listen is almost as intense as my distrust of love at first sight.

At least music can't break your heart.

Regrets?

So I had a moment on the bus today. Well a few moments actually.
I haven't taken public transit since I started driving, so for about a year. I don't have a negative attitude towards it, I just did not need it. I had to take the bus to MacEwan today for new student orientation. Which I'm totally fine with. However I am not totally fine with my first bus trip involving a nose picker. Of course just my luck I had a nose picker directly in my line of view. Not just a subtle nose picker either. A picker and examiner. I love starting the day off with a good dose of noses. *insert wretching and gagging noises here*
But on the second bus things got better. No nose pickers.
However I did go almost right by Vanguard. This is not an unusual occurence. I go by it everytime I go to work. However there was something distinctly... sad about going past Vanguard whilst going to another school.
I in no way regret my decision. I feel very good about it. A small part of me is sad, dissapointed, nostaligic. I will miss many people. I will miss Thursday chapels. And the occasional Tuesday chapel. I will miss our weekend trips. I will miss the crazy CMC's and HMSers.
A part of me is sad, I guess its a part of me that is in mourning. I was so happy to leave that I didn't think about what I would be leaving behind.
Yet I look towards the future and am filled with so much excitement. New classes, new people, new friends, new experiences, new directions. I feel as though I am finally taking that big step into the real world. I'm picking a path and going down it. And a wicked awesome path it is. I mean I get to take Swahili for goodness sakes!
Swahili!

Like always I leave my blog for a good chunk of time, begin to miss it and then come back.
A lot has changed in the last few months. Especially me.
But enough of the deep stuff.

A blogger's mind.

I often think of things i want to blog. The little oddities of life that I think others might enjoy reading.
However just as often I forget them.
But I've remembered this.

The playground by my house has a huge fence around it.
Now this sounds normal. Its not just a fence.
Its a big portable fence that the City has placed around the entire playground.
There is no way in. There is no way out.
There is no fun had at this playground.
Its a very big statement against childhood enjoyment of swings, slides and monkeybars.
NO FUN TO BE HAD HERE.

If I can remember I'll get a picture of it.
And its really just a fence so that they can do construction without anyone getting hurt.
But it seems like an antiplay statement.

Maybe my blogger mind is a little crazy...

Bleh

I am feeling like life sucks. Pretty much.
I have a growing dislike for my job. Thankfully I have an interview for a better job on Monday. My job isn't horrible, I'm just not cut out for sales.
I have sat at home nearly every night for the last 2 weeks. Its brutal. I stronly dislike it.
I have seen friends rarely in the last couple weeks. Like 3 or 4 times. Therefore my world consists of my parents and my dog. Oh the joys.

I am bored. I am lonely. I am fed up. I am directionless. I am in a bad mood.

And I am venting it here.

Summer

I can't say I'm overly fond of four months of summer.
It seems way too long.
Although one month has gone by too fast already.

I feel detached from life. Like it could just go on and leave me behind.
And I probably wouldn't notice.

ps. Breakfast was mucho fun. good idea erin.

Left, Right, Up or Down?

There are so many decisions to make in life. And so many of them are hard.
Growing up is a lot harder than they tell you.

Erin and I had some great adventures the other night. Read her blog to find out more!

But in regards to life decisions... there are a few I've made I'm feeling good about.
I had a conversation today that made me feel more settled about some things that had been pressing on my mind.
I feel good about that. This is the first time since modular week I've felt good about the situation. That was back in February.

TONY AND LENA CAME HOME YESTERDAY!
and only by the grace of God was I able to make it to the airport to see them get back. Originally their flight was coming in at 12. I was working 10-2. I found out later that they missed their flight and were getting in at 1:45. I was also getting off work at 1. So i made it to the airport like 10 minutes late. But I was there.
THEY'RE HOME!

Well I guess I shoud go back to making important life decisions.

word of wisdom for today. Don't grow up too fast...

5.15.2006

Best Mail EVER!

I came home today and had two pieces of mail.
One was my first letter from my sponsor child!!!!!
The second was a letter from a girl in Guatemala who recieved my operation christmas child box!!!!!
Two letters from two girls in two different continents! In one day! What are the chances?
It is so amazing!
I can't wait to write them back!

5.11.2006

Pedestrians

Sometimes pedestrians do really stupid things.
Like walk into the middle of traffic expecting people to stop.
Sometimes they walk really slowly through crosswalks.
I've seen people walk half way through a crosswalk and turn back around.

I know I've done stupid things as a pedestrian.
Which will remain unnamed... ahem running across the 6 lane road in Kelowna every year.

But today was the first time I had to stop for a pigeon.
He looked like he wanted to cross.
And I wasn't sure if he was going to.
It was very unnerving.
A pigeon in a mall parking lot crosswalk.

Stayin Out Late

Why is it so easy to stay up late to hang out with friends and have fun when its so hard to stay up late to do homework?

On a positive sidenote:

I seem to have less of a curfew right now. Soon enough I'll have none! Woohoo!

5.02.2006

A Quickie

Grad weekend was FREAKING AMAZING!

More to come later

on a sad/funny note... I dropped my camera in my milkshake tonight.
But its okay.
Poor camera.

They're Back!!

Everyone came back yesterday!
The airport is the happiest place in the world!!! Well at least when people are coming home.
I am officially done everything! Last exam was yesterday!
No more homework no more anything! So freakin exciting.
I am going into school today to do some stuff for grad... I should probably get on that.
I'm just waiting for my laundry to finish. Hehe

SUMMER IS HERE!

How Deep the Father's Love for Us...

How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch a treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming.

I need a little Dorie fish to say that to me all the time.
Its so close to the end of the semester. Its almost here!
And I'm not quite sure how I feel about that yet.
I'm going to miss people like crazy. I already do.
But its sort of different right now. Kind of like a delayed numb missing people.
Because I know people are coming back. But that is only for a few days.
And then so many people will be gone.
I'm excited for those who are coming back next year. I know we'll have a ton of fun.

I went and got an application to work for the assistant manager I worked for a while back.
And I plan to go and apply at some places at Kingsway tomorrow.
I only have class til noon. So I can finish the last two pages of my cross cultural paper hand it in and go do some job hunting.

In other news,
Homemade granola is yummy but burns fast.

Apples and Peanut Butter... Best Friends

Well its been a while since a real update...
So I guess I'll start where I left off.

..Friday..
Meagan and I had some "private time" as her friend said. Hehe. We walked around the river valley for 2 hourish. Then sat at the top of a hill talking. (ps Meagan lets do it again! I liked that enormously long walk!) Then we went back to her apartment. Well Tiff and Cindie's apartment that is Meagans while they are off jetsetting. And there we had some yummy grilled cheese sandwiches, pita chips and hummus. And we talked some more. I was planning on going to youth. But we talked through that too. Meagan and I talked for 8 hours straight. It was amazing! I learned a lot about both Meagan and myself in those eight hours. One of the best days I've ever had.

After Meagan's I went to Michelles for a little while. Saw some of the youth leaders and then they left soon after I got there so Michelle and I hung out and talked. She showed me her China journal.

Then I went home and went to sleep.

Work on Saturday. I can't remember what I did Saturday night. Probably just sat around my house...

Sunday- church, work, picked up Amberlie after youth leader meeting, went to my house. Made some soup. Hung out. Then headed on down to the Harsches. Walked to Safeway with Jileane and Renee.
Interesting story about that. We walked on this path through the park. And it was melty and snowy water slush everywhere. I was wearing little NOT waterproof shoes. And Jileane decides to push me into the snow. So I don't fall but its really cold on my feet. (Warning: TMI moment coming up... Don't say I didn't warn you.) And then I started to pee my pants a teeny tiny bit. And that made me mad and then my shoe came off. And the Jileane took it. And I wanted to beat her. So I'm standing in the middle of this snow pile yelling at Jileane to give me my shoe and "I have to pee! I'm peeing! Give me my shoe! Ahhhhh!"
At the moment I would say it was not so funny. But looking back now... freaking hilarious. Stupid Millwoods park. Hehe.

Then I hung out at Harsches til about 1 playing Scene It. Michelle and I had a moment! It was a fill in the blank... they add letters to the title of the movie.. similar to Wheel of Fortune. So Michelle and I figured it out both at about the same time. And the answer is BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID. Somehow Michelle and I both yelled out bItch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. And when I say yell I mean we yelled. She said it first and then I said it to try and beat her to saying it. And then I realized it was wrong but I didn't figure out how and yelled out the real answer. And when we stopped yelling, everyone was looking at us rather funny. Then we both figured out what we had been yelling and the top of our lungs. Ahem. Good moment... I'm laughing fairly hard as I write it now.

Monday was no classes. I can't remember what I did. Again probably a lot of nothing. Oh found a lot of recipes. Thats about it.

Tuesday was yesterday. So i did have class. Went to a lunch time club with Kristy from Kids on Track. That was awesome fun. Then last night I slept over at Michelles. We watched Love Story and I fell asleep for the end but I've seen it a few times so that was okay. Then we looked at pictures and a funny movie of Alex from when he was in high school. Then watched the first part of What About Bob? Then it was2:35 in the morning and we decided to go to bed. I slept really well and then in the morning Michelle made pancakes and yogurt and strawberries. It was delicious.

Went to school and had "class" with Melissa and Keryn. We went to the mall and sat in Second Cup and chatted. Yummy and fun.

Then had a class. Woopie.

Then went to CLC and painted some banner type things for them. It was so much fun.

OOH other big news! I got a new digital camera last night. It is very nice and exciting and takes brilliant photos. I'm very happy to be a shutterbug again. I might by a membership to some website such as smugmug and post pictures. After a year of having like no photos, I want a million pictures. Life is just so much more fun with them.

Okay I think that catches you up on my life.

My deep and meaningful thought...

Its very funny to see furry little creatures walking around with people behind them carrying their poop in a bag. (I am of course talking about dogs) I just think its funny. Yes its better than leaving it on the sidewalk or my front lawn but its an amusing sight. What if someone walked behind us with a bag of our.... you get the picture! And that is probably gross and not the same at all but it crossed my mind when I was driving home today. So there you have a glimpse into my weird mind.

I should go to bed now. 8 am class.

10 more school days left for me! Yikesabee!

You know you need to clean your room when...

I'm sitting here printing off my three assignments totally over 30 pages. I'm praying my ink and paper hold out!
The printer is on the floor hooked up to my laptop. And I am sitting on a pile of dirty laundry- and there is more dirty laundry surrounding me. I am a pig sometimes! Things just get busy are there are assignments to do and then its suddenly Friday and my room is hugely messy again and as I look at all the laundry on the floor I wonder if I have any clean laundry. That is a very good question... All I need is a clean shirt!

I got an email from a friend who is over in Hong Kong. That definately made my day! Its so good to hear little bit about what is happening and to know people are safe and having a blast. Life is so different without them all.

my printer just made a breaking sound. its okay.

i once dropped it and my laptop at the same time. well I didn't drop them. They fell off the shelf thing they were on. That is why it is now on the floor. Its safer that way.

Okay my bum is getting numb sitting on my hardwood floor.

I orignally said my bum is getting number... but that doesn't made sense. so i changed it after posting it. haha

What is Happening to Society? (A deep post...)

When did a TV show become more important than relationship?
Why have we let media become front and center in our life?
Where do our values really lie?

I ask these questions because of something that happened tonight. A friend I haven't seen in a while was talking to me on MSN and it was nice. Then she realized she was missing the OC and left. Now in case you read this I'm not mad at you or anything. It just made me think.
I know I've done that before. I've left a conversation with a friend to go watch a TV show.
But as I think of my friends in Hong Kong or Tony and Lena in Thailand, I would stay on MSN all night to have the chance to talk to any of them for even 5 minutes. There is no way I'd leave one of those conversations to go watch a TV show.

So where do our values lie?
Is a TV show really more important than a conversation with a friend?
Will your life significantly be altered if you miss the latest episode of America's Top Model or Grey's Anatomy or ER (Those last two are definately me....)
Not really.
Will it significantly be altered because you lose out on chances to build relationship?
Possibly.

If we all snub each other for the more important things in life that is all we will have left.

We will be sitting alone with our TVs watching reruns of crappy tv shows, our only friends.

Okay so maybe that last part is a bit extreme. I guess I've just come to realize that value of relationships lately. And the complete insignificance TV has to our life. Be a college student for a few months. You'll quickly learn that TV isn't all that important and you can go for days without watching and surprisingly the world does keep turning.
I think about the TV thing often as I prepare to move out. Do I not have one all together? But I would love to have people come over and watch movies. Or would I really? Wouldn't it be better to build relationships through talking and goofing around rather than staring mindlessly at a screen. Probably. So be warned all you who plan to visit me next year- our apartment will be a place of TVless bliss!!!

And I will now stop procrasting homework. Almost done!

So I'm not going to write a whole lot. I don't have much to say. Theres been stuff. And other stuff. And thats all.
Went to the oilers game last night. And sadly we lost.
Going to a youth movie night tonight.
Have to finish my gospels major assignment before I go. It'll take like 5 minutes. I just am waaay to lazy to do it.
Due date got moved to Friday so I can do my parable stuff tomorrow, and ahem on Friday. Teehee.

Total on everything: 67ish... I don't trust the math i do in my head :D

From horrible to Hoorah!

Somehow this week managed to go from being extremely crappy to amazing!
I started this week with roughly 70 hours of practicum to do.
I am now down to about 45!
I've down 23 hours of practicum from Monday to Friday this week and remember some hours I forgot to add into my calculations for February.
So it seems managable!
And I also managed to finish two major assignments a week early! So no I only have 3 to do for Thursday. I'm hoping to finish a good chunk of my Systematic Theology questions tonight and finish them by tomorrow. Do one of my gospels assignments on Monday and then the other one on Wednesday. Then I will be down to only two assignments for the rest of the school year. Hoorah!

So I'm going to apply for a job at another library that goes from this April til next April- perfect timing. Its 17.5 hours a week but thats manageable. I want to take at least one course by distance ed this summer and if I get the other library job I would only have to work the one job or minimal hours at a second one. And that would enable me to dedicate a lot of time to a distance ed course and some summer practicum stuff. So pray that if its meant to be I'll get the job because there are some obstables (time off and availability) that I fear might make it hard to get the job. But we'll see.

Okay I suppose I should do some homework... bleh.

The end is in sight!

3.23.2006

New....

So I changed my template. The other was just too... stupid girly. Besides this one is pink.

I finished my literature review today and handed it in! Woohoo! I can't tell you how happy that makes me.
And I'm not going to count the assignments I have left. That will just depress me.

Today was an emotionally trying day. Although one of my better ones this week.
And it wasn't emotionally trying because of selfish reasons or anything.
The speaker in chapel was just.... wow. He was from Voice of the Martyrs. And his stories and the videos. I don't feel like going into it too much. There was a lot of conviction, a lot of sadness, and some tears. I'll maybe write more when I've processed it a tad more.
And another emotionally trying moment. Without going into too much detail to protect identities and feelings and all that.... I just found out some stuff about some of the kids I volunteer with. And wow. When I found out I make more at my part time job then a dad that supports a family of 6 (per hour wage).... how is that supposed to make you feel?
And just hearing all the friends or family members that have been in hospital recently- one dealing with the effects of alcoholism.... Its just tough to hear.
today was an awesome day in sewing club though. We didn't sew. We just hung out and talked. I got to know the girls a whole lot more and I just felt an increased attachment and closeness. And the coolest thing happened when I was leaving. We were walking out of the Hands House and this lady waved and smiled the hugest smile. (People in the neighbourhood know the House) I didn't know her but she just gave me the hugest smile and waved anyways. And then when I drove by her she smiled again and waved. And I just laughed with glee. Yes I actually laughed with glee. I have no other way to describe it. I'm starting to feel connected to the neighbourhood- even if its very slighty. I hope with continued working with Judi and Tool Time this summer that feeling with grow stronger and deeper.
Amazing.

kristi

ps. So somehow i got stuck behind the same slow lady on the Yellowhead. I kid you not, the very same lady! What are the chances???? Grrr! (Maybe God is saying something about patience to me... haha. I already know I have to work on that!)

3.21.2006

Stress...Relief

So I started today stressed out to the max. I blame it all on the stupid lady in front of me going 60 on the Yellowhead from St Albert Trail to 107th. I couldn't pass her because of the traffic in the next lane. I know we were in the "slow" lane but go the freakin speed limit! And consider most people drive 70-90 on the Yellowhead she was doing 10-30 below the speed limit. An accident waiting to happen.

Wow I just needed to rant about that.

Rant number two.

Practicum Hours.
How in the world am I going to do them all? Even just the amount I need to graduate. There is no way I'm not graduating with my friends. That would be the crappiest of all crappy things in the world.
So I was just super stressed about that and ready to quit school. I had no desire to worship in chapel. [bad me I know i couldn't help it though] plus i kinda felt i was at a staged concert not worship. but thats besides the point.
I wrote like 3 pages in my journal while prof. guthrie spoke. I listened too but I really just needed to get a crapload of stuff off my chest. And that is what I did. I find my journal is targeted to a single topic lately. One that requires "Do Not Read" post-its. (I hand my journal in for one of my courses and if I don't want something read then I stick a "Do not read" post it on the page and that is respected...i hope!) The 3rd time all year and this time they are like every second page!!! But that just helped clear my mind quite a bit.
And tonight I got my rough and first draft of my Literature Review done! Yippee. Its only 7 and I accomplished that. That make my outlook brighter! And I'm feeling significantly better about practicum hours too. I'm going to help with the youth silent auction this friday! Which will be a ton of hours!
So this is how my week for practicum hours looks.
Monday- 2 hours meeting with Judi
2.5 hours carnival budget
Tuesday- none
Wednesday- hopefully 1.5 hours cleaning room
potentially 2 hours CFM bulletin board
Thursday- 2 hours sewing club
Friday- 1 hour filing
7-8 hours silent auction
Saturday- fundraising prep 1 hour
Sunday- .5 hour kids worship
So that puts my grand total for the week at..... 18-19 hours! Holy shiza! Thats a lot of hours. Let me see that puts me at... hopefully 55 hours left! Not bad for starting at about 75 at the beginning of this week!
Life is looking brighter!

*giant sigh of relief*

Time Machine...

Does someone have a time machine I could borrow?

I realized today I have 70 hours of practicum to do in 5 weeks.
Holy crap!
well I need 30 more to graduate- but it'll definately screw with my GPA. AHHHH! I can finish the hours over the summer though and that'll fix my mark. This is seriously uncool. I have to work like crazy at both school and practicum.

And for this reason this entry will be short.

As in ending now.

Speaking of Interesting...

Okay work itself was not interesting. Its a library so I mean really.
However Pam tried to get me to go to Anahiem with her. I'm contimplating since she would have enough airmiles for air fare for both of us. Yet it still seems like a lot of money. I'm thinking about it... I never do anything crazy like that.

My parents bought a condo during the 4.5 hours I was at work. Yeah. Crazy. Insanity. Not really as they have been talking about it for like 3 years. Now this means Jen and I are definately getting an apartment. Since I have no room in the new house. Haha. I was planning on moving out anyways. This just makes it for sure for sure. Kraft Dinner night here I come!

They got a new 42" plasma tv with the house as well. Personally I think thats the only reason they bought it.

I don't want to do homework. I did work out though. 45 minutes on the elliptical. An episode of Alias. Woohoo.

Reality is setting in though. Assignments are due in 11 days. Yikesabee! (Wow its been a while since I've said that)

Trip to Anahiem or a new digital camera and a months rent.... decisions, decisions.

Sunday Times...

I didn't go to church this morning. Well it doesn't start for another hour so I guess the correct term would be "i'm not going to church this morning." The roads are still horrible crazy and I don't feel like driving to church for probably 45 minutes being their for half an hour to then drive the 45 minutes back to work. Its just not logical.

So I have a few hours to kill before work.

Here's what I hope to accomplish in that time:

Work out
Homework

Okay thats all I hope to accomplish. I have very low goals today.

Through surfing blogs I've discovered way too many people write about politics. Okay maybe I shouldn't say way too many. It just seems an exorbenent amount. I also saw some weird pictures of Emma Watson (aka Hermoine) drinking beer. She is 15. And that was random.

Jileane- yes. feel priveleged. You are a priveleged sort of person. And yes crappit will go down in history and will be remembered for all time, or at least until next week.

Tony- I think I puked in my mouth a little.... sweat in the vatofood. *shudder* I don't want to think about it. The sweating is just going to get worse in Thailand. From the few people I know that are there doing their internships, they say there are lots of internet cafes. I'm excited for you guys to go to Thailand and Pakistan. Both sound like amazing opportunities. I'll be praying tons for you guys! ps. I miss the man underneath the layer of sweat more than the sweat...)

Lena- I've heard about the KFC biscuts. That is weird. I could go for a biscut right now. When you get back we will have to have a KFC, certain unnamed television show *ahem*, and caramel apple day. Maybe a little bit of ice cream thrown in there. If we are going to be that unhealthy we might as well go all the way! Remember everything that happens in Thailand and Pakistan so you can tell me about. And I mean everything. Every detail. That is your mission should you choose to accept it. And accept it you must! ;)

Okay I guess I could go start on my list of things to do before work.

If something interesting happens at work I'll write later.

Q: thoughts on 3?
Oh the history. Forks and boys, beads and noses. Great times.

I'm back...

Okay.
So I'm back.
Its been a while.
But I feel like its time to blog again.

Um don't read too much into my whole layout. Unless you are certain people who know certain things. Then read as much into it as you like. But please don't ask me about it. I'm confused as a dizzy catepillar. Or something. And that is all I will speak on the subject for now.

I have created a new word. Crappit. It refers to the roads conditions here. Its snowed like 30 cm since last night. Its horrible. I suppose crappit could describe many things though. What I'm not sure- insert your own things crappit describes here-.

School is drawing to a close! Which is sad and relieving all at the same time. I've decided to stay at Vanguard for 3 more years.
All of my classmates but one are in Thailand right now. I miss them something fierce. 39 days til they come home.

I went to youth last night for the first time in a long time. It was some good times.

As a result of Tim Hortons after midnight and alarming number of people know something about me that I almost wish they didn't. But Daniel has his fingers crossed for me so I think that makes me feel better.

Work was horribly slow today. Normally the library is a gong show of busy-ness. Today was brutal. Nothing to do. But I did get paid great to do very little.

So here I am blogging again. I sort of missed it. And I want this one to last. I plan to have a much more exciting life so hopefully it will.
